Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church is a year one Wesleyan Church founded in 1843.
It began in a house owned by Miles & Nancy Lamb located on the east side of State Road 38. There were 9 charter members. In 1845-1847, a log cabin at the curve of Sulphur Springs Road was erected and the name of the church became Duck Creek Wesleyan Methodist.
Fast forward to 1890, plans were made to move the Duck Creek Church to our present location. The ground was donated to the church by
Fletcher Stephens (the great grandfather of two of our current church members). The church voted to change the name from Duck Creek to Mt. Zion and had its first meeting on January 4, 1891. The average attendance was 60 and the offering was 30 cents.
The current Bedford stone building was built in 1960-1961. The new building was boiler heated with restrooms, 4 classrooms, a nursery, and a worship area. In 1966 two overflow rooms for classes and a new sanctuary were built on the east side of the building. In 1987, land was
purchased to the west and north of the church. A Sunday School classroom addition with restrooms was added along with remodeling to the
original unit. In 1997, fundraising began for a new Family Life Center. In 1999, a Family Life Center, classrooms, restrooms, kitchen,
and upstairs storage that can be converted into classrooms were added.

Wesleyans believe in one God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the Savior of all who put their faith in Him alone for eternal life.
We believe that those who are made new in Christ are called to be holy in character and conduct, and can only live this way by being filled with the Lord’s Spirit. We believe in the Bible and its sufficiency to establish our faith and conduct. We believe God wills for people everywhere to know Him and be made new in Christ. We believe that the purpose of the Church is to worship God in spirit and in truth, and to reach a lost and fallen world with the gospel of Jesus Christ through its worship, witness, and loving deeds.
